It was very difficult to decide my hiking schedule on this summer season because of long rainy season and many typhoons.
The weather forecast said on that day, it will be thunder storm from late afternoon, so I chose Mt.Teng-dake at the center of Yatsugatake Mountains, to finish my hiking at noon.
Yatsugatake mountains are located on the border of Yamanashi and Nagano, very popular with hikers.
There are many hiking courses and easy access from Tokyo.
- 1.Departed from Karasawa Kosen
- 2.Hike up the ridge
- 3.Walking the Ridge.
- 4.Hike down to Kuroyuri Hutte.
1.Departed from Karasawa Kosen
I arrived at Karasawa Kosen at 6A.M., one of the gate to Yatsugatake Mountains (3-4hours by car from Tokyo).
The last 3km of road to Karasawa Kosen is dirt and the parking lot is free.
Enter the trail to Mt.Tengu from right side of the inn.
The trail is surrounded by coniferous trees at first.
2.Hike up the ridge
Hiked up the trail 1 hour, I reached to the ridge to the summit.
Reached at the First Observatory.
Southern Japanese Alps mountains to Central Japanese Alps mountains.
Northern Japanese Alps mountains.
Heading to the Second Observatory.
Reached at the second observatory.
The trail changed rocky at just under the summit, climb the rocks by signs.
3.Walking the Ridge.
Mt. Tengu has two summits. I arrived the west summit at 8:30A.M..
Beautiful view of Yatsugatake mountains.
I had lunch with this gorgeous view.
4.Hike down to Kuroyuri Hutte.
I had to hike down early because of storm forecast, heading to Kuroyuri lodge.
The path is rocky and slippy, walk by signs.
Arrived at Kuroyuri Hutte at 10:30.
Got back to the parking lot through the beautiful forest.
The beautiful mossy forest, this is the one of the characteristics of Yatsugatake mountains.
Arrived at Karasawa Kosen at noon and I could finish my hiking before storm come.
